The Four of Cups

I’m just bouncing through Berlin — landed at 10:00 yesterday, leaving at 07:20 today — to drop off some stuff and pick up some other stuff. And move a lot of stuff around.

I’m doing quite well traveling lightly. So well, in fact, that I’ve discovered I have room to carry a larp costume around with me, depending on the costume.1 So that’ll get me through about a game, but it still begs the question where am I getting those costumes from?

Some I’ve been able to rent. Some I’ve been able to grab from thrift stores. But the bulk of them I have mailed to me. Or rather, mailed to a friend of mine. Which I then swing by and pick up on my way to another game. I’m here specifically because the last person I was keeping all that stuff with decided they couldn’t help anymore. So I’m here to oversee moving my stuff from one friend’s space to another.

And this is the worst of travel. On a timetable, someplace else to be, just long enough to drop in, get something done, then hop a plane to somewhere else. No fault to my friend or her roommates.2 I just felt distracted and irritable.

But that’s the nature of travel. In order to get where you’re going, sometimes you’ll be in transit. Here’s to less of that, please.

Footnotes

1 Maybe not an Elton John concert wardrobe, but enough.

2 Although the cats could do with an intervention, given their tendency to break into loud screeching matches at 01:30. And 02:30. and 04:00. It’s fine, I was getting up at 05:00 for my flight anyway.
